Dos Equis Beer came to NextFab with an ambitious project on a tight deadline.
For their ‘League of the Most Interesting’ promotional tour, they needed an amusement challenge which would capture the experience of lumberjack logrolling (also known as "birling"), but on dry land.
The device needed to be strong, safe enough for the general public, provide a fun and realistic logrolling experience, be easily transportable, and be delivered in one month!
NextFab designed, engineered, and fabricated a complete system comprising the log, platforms and a central support, and safety fencing, and worked with a partner company to produce safety padding and an inflatable mattress.
The twelve-foot long log was produced as a tubular steel cylindrical frame, sheathed with plywood, and enclosed in sewn padding. Tubular steel and plywood platforms support the ends of the log via bearings, and allow contestants to walk out onto the top of the log. A motorcycle disk brake was adapted to allow an operator to control the level of difficulty for contestants.
The entire project was completed in less than a month - on time and on budget - and travels each year to a series of concerts and events across the country throughout the summer.
